It is not unusual to have water in the body or accumulation of water in various organs during pregnancy. Usually 50 to 80 percent of pregnant women have this problem. This swelling or edema is caused due to accumulation of excess fluid in the cells.

During pregnancy, a woman gains about 25 percent of her body weight. Any part of the body can swell at this time. However, if there is water in the hands and mouth, excessive swelling, increased blood pressure, excess protein in the urine, you should go to the doctor immediately.

because
During the first three months of pregnancy, the level of progesterone hormone in the blood increases a lot. It is one of the causes of water retention in the body. Due to the gradual increase in the size of the baby, the mother's body produces about 50 percent more blood and fluid.
From the beginning of the fourth month, the size of the uterus increases. When the baby in the womb grows, the pressure of its head blocks the blood flow in the veins of the mother's lower body through which the blood flows to the heart. As a result, the blood flow from the lower limbs to the heart decreases. The fluid drains from the veins and accumulates in the body tissues. It causes watery or swollen feet.

Watery feet can occur even if you have high blood pressure, heart or kidney disease before or during pregnancy.

Working out for long periods of time, having a diet low in potassium, and drinking excessively caffeinated beverages can also increase water retention.

When to be careful
Sudden excessive watering of hands and mouth. with headache. Blurred vision. Chest pain, shortness of breath and cough.

Swelling or swelling of one leg, with pain. Decreased fetal movements (at least 10-12 movements in 12 hours is normal).

If dehydration occurs due to excessive vomiting, contact the hospital immediately.
