Many people use one or more extensions to get extra features in the browser. And so, hackers are stealing various information including location information of users through malicious browser extensions. Anti-virus maker McAfee discovered one such incident. Five browser extensions for the Chrome browser were secretly collecting users' online activities and location data, the company said.


Browser extensions that steal users' information are Netflix Party, Netflix Party 2, FlipShop-Price Tracker Extension, Full Page Screenshot Capture-Screenshotting and Autobuy Flash Sales. Google has already removed the extensions from the Chrome Web Store after learning about it. However, the extensions were downloaded more than 14 million times worldwide before being deleted.


Malware extensions monitor all browser activities and collect user information. And so security experts advise users to remove browser extensions from their devices.
